Listening Media :
I use the following "Listening Media" to keep my thumb on the pulse of the world. I use them as an ensemble; I scan given topics, search with given keywords across all of them, cross-referencing, and narrowing it down so that at the end of the day, I have one or two rare finds. At the start of a new day, I simply rinse and repeat. The List...

/gwensutton Heck, I'm particular about things!
PS: Who says what where about women being so particular about things? That sucks people saying stuff like that..

/gwensutton Is Slashdot making a comeback now that Digg's redesign was a complete and utter flop? Slashdot predates Digg by a great many years, if I'm not mistaken. "The Slashdot Effect" they used to call it, when a site would get so many people coming inbound from Slashdot that it would cause traffic problems..
Seriously, though, about Digg.. I personally a) used to love Digg, I used to love it so darn much, I would go there everyday I'd be on there all the livelong day.. and then b) they totally screwed up the experience.. not a single iota remains from the way I loved it.. I can't find any news on there.. maybe my account is busted or something, but there is simply NO news.. nothing at all, like 3 or 4 new stories PER DAY in the Technology section..
Unless I have to be following a source to get their news, I don't know.. I do searches and I get nothing.. I seriously think they should scrap it & go back to what they had before..
Sometimes you have a good thing and redesigning it is a bad idea, it gets rid of the good thing that it was, creating a monstrosity..
If you notice here with Chumly - I almost said Twitter by accident! - every single design grew out of the community organically and it was ALWAYS in the direction of making Chumly more Chumly..
Chumly was optimized slowly and surely and we proved that there was more to a site than mere features.. it's how the features work together that creates the user experience.. and we never lost that "Flow" experience I kept calling it back in the day.. hehe
One day they will talk about The Chumly Effect, I hope. ;-)

Information overload? Filter failure? All it takes is ONE KEYWORD and you've got instant relevance. I don't see a problem. :(

/roscoeellis The point was that I listened to a football game on the radio.. and for the hell of me I couldn't visualize what the heck was going on.. just a bunch of random names and numbers, it was all Greek to me! But the announcers / commentators are so passionate about what's going on.. I think that's got to be one heck of a job, announcing / commenting on a football game over the radio.. how can you describe swarm activity & the complexities of group warfare and the geopolitics of the action on the field, the quantum mechanics of field goals, with words only?!!
-
/roscoeellis Hi, Roscoe. Maybe I already told you, I'm not sure.. but the other day I listened to a CFL game on the radio.. I've caught it about three times now, 94.3 FM (Radio NRJ) plays the Alouettes games.. I thought of you while I was listening to the game the other day. It was weird.
I'm the guy that will sit next to you and watch the entire Superbowl while asking you a hundred thousand questions.. Cause I still don't quite understand the game 100%.. I'm stuck in staring at the ball, amateur Hockey fan mentality.. & the NFL the game stops every 2.5-3.5 seconds..
Suffice to say that listening to a game over the radio.. was... ridiculous and bizarre, yet titillating in a way. It's worth a listen..
I went to see the Alouettes play a couple of years back.. and I'm afraid that I watched everything BUT the game.. The cheerleaders.. I'm sorry to say that their dance interpretations were so exquisite.. yes I have a soft spot for contemporary dance.. hehehe
There was way too much activity in the stadium for my blood.. between the half naked cheerleaders & mascots throwing sh*t at us, contests & hotdogs.. and there's always a foul dude smoking either a cigar or some marijuana.. stinking up the stands..

!allthingsgoogle so Google Instant looks interesting. What does everybody else think?

re : the dancer optical illusion. Stare at it until it switches directions. I stare at her foot on the ground, stare at the shadow, focus just between the shadow and the foot and right when the other foot passes in front of the bottom foot and shadow, shazam! - she switches direction and I am blown away. Let me know how this went for you. :)

!askalex It's not the weekly puzzle I promised, but it is somewhat puzzling. Which way is she turning? You can make your brain switch the direction. Wrench your brain really hard on this one. ;-)
